Teen Speaking Skills Winners & Kathleen Behrens

Teen Speaking Skills graduates Hanrui, Austin, and Kevin won 1st, 2nd, & 3rd place, respectively, in the Del Mar/Solana Beach Optimist Club’s annual oratorical contest. The theme for the contest was “If I were Leader of the free world, the first issue I would address would be…” The students presented 4-5 minute speeches during the competition on a relevant topic of their choice.

Hanrui, Austin, and Kevin graduated from the Teen Speaking Skills basic class on Saturday, March 26, 2011. All three boys were excellent students who quickly absorbed and applied the confidence, speaking skills, and presentation strategies they learned during the eight week course. With encouragement from their parents, friends, and Teen Speaking Skills course instructor Kathleen Behrens, the boys rose to the challenge of competing in their first speech contest.

In addition to having a great time, improving their speaking skills, and increasing their confidence, Hanrui, Austin, and Kevin also won cash prizes of $150, $100, and $75, respectively. Hanrui will advance to the next level of competition on April 16, 2011, and all three boys are looking forward to enhancing their confidence, public speaking, and leadership skills during the teen advanced class, which begins on April 23, 2011.
