Academy for Public Speaking Founder and President Kathleen Petrone and Instructor Brianne Holden recently celebrated the success of the fall 2013 Academy for Public Speaking graduates with the students and their parents at graduation ceremonies held at After School Learning Tree in San Diego.
The Academy for Public Speaking level one and advanced students completed fun, interactive eight session courses to become confident, effective communicators by improving their public speaking and leadership skills.
The Academy for Public Speaking level one graduates showcased their public speaking skills as they presented persuasive charity speeches and competed to win a $25 donation for their charity. The advanced students demonstrated sophisticated speaking techniques as they entertained their parents, teachers, and classmates with humorous speeches.
During the second part of the graduation, the children were individually recognized and honored for their achievements. Throughout the courses, the students improved their public speaking skills by completing several types of speech projects, learning how to give effective peer evaluations, practicing their impromptu speaking skills, and developing their confidence and leadership skills.
The graduation ceremonies concluded with the presentation of the awards. Congratulations to pre-teen graduate Aanya Agarwal and teen graduate Neil Majumdar for winning 1st place and donations for their charities – The Sierra Club and The World Wildlife Fund.
Congratulations also to Melinda Lu & Michael Choi for winning 2nd place and Kevin Shen & Sydney Corrigan for winning 3rd place in the level one pre-teen and teen speech contests.
For the advanced public speaking classes, Emily Chen and Yousif Ragab won 1st place, Luke Zhao and Sara Beniwal won 2nd place, and James Ni won 3rd place. Congratulations to all of the fall 2013 graduates!
