The Academy for Public Speaking is proud to celebrate three speech contest winners from this past weekend – Academy for Public Speaking graduates Ella Engelberg and Sanjana Kumar and Academy for Public Speaking instructor Norman Nomura.
Optimist Club Oratorical Contest
Celebrating Ella’s Achievement!
Despite only being in 6th grade and competing against middle and high school students, Ella won the Del Mar Solana Beach Optimist Club Oratorical Contest on March 24, 2018 and the second level, the Optimist Club Northern Zone Oratorical Contest on April 28, 2018.
On Saturday, May 5, 2018, Ella will compete in the San Diego Optimist Club District Oratorical Contest to win a $1,000, $1,500, or $2,500 scholarship and the chance to advance to the Regional Contest & World Championship of Public Speaking in St. Louis, Missouri in June where students compete to win $5,000, $10,000 and $15,000 scholarships. North South Foundation – Public Speaking Bee
Another 6th grade Academy for Public Speaking graduate, Sanjana Kumar, won 1st place this past Sunday in the Junior Public Speaking Bee. Congratulations, Sanjana! We are proud of you.
Toastmasters International Speech Contest
Congratulations also to Academy for Public Speaking instructor and Distinguished Toastmaster Norman Nomura for winning 2nd place in the Toastmasters District 5 International Speech Contest this past Saturday.
Toastmasters District 5 includes all of San Diego and also Yuma, Arizona. Norman is a very talented public speaker. We are proud of you, Mr. Nomura!
Public Speaking and Debate Courses & Summer Camps
Making a Positive Difference!
Registration is available for our summer public speaking camps and courses in San Diego.
Our public speaking and debate summer camps are open to all students who will enter 3rd-7th grade in the fall. Camps will meet M-F from 8 a.m. to 12 p.m. at Ocean Air School in Carmel Valley.
We also offer public speaking and debate courses on Saturdays for pre-teens and teens in San Diego at the Hampton Inn Del Mar. The schedule and registration are available on our website.
