Teen Speaking Skills Graduates Win Optimist Club’s Zone Level Oratorical Contest in San Diego

Teen Speaking Skills graduates Austin Zhang and Aisiri Murulidhar won 1st & 2nd place and $150 & $100 prizes, respectively, in the Optimist Club’s zone level oratorical contest in San Diego on April 26, 2012. The Optimist Club holds an annual oratorical contest for teens and pre-teens in San Diego.

Although there are separate speech contests for each gender, there are no distinctions based upon age. It is quite remarkable for middle school students, such as Austin and Aisiri, to compete among high school students and perform as well or better.

The zone level is the second level of the competition. After winning 1st place in the Del Mar Solana Beach Optimist Club’s club level contest in February, Aisiri and Austin advanced to the zone level.

Austin will compete at the third and highest level, the district level, of the Optimist Club’s oratorical contest in San Diego this weekend on May 19, 2012. The 1st place winner of the district contest can win up to a $2,500 scholarship!

Good Luck on Saturday, Austin!
