San Diego high school students involved in Project Concern International’s Global Youth Leadership Program attended a half day public speaking seminar offered by the Academy for Public Speaking to gain confidence and learn their voice is a powerful tool they can use to make a positive difference in our world.
The students participated in the Academy for Public Speaking Straight A’s for Success Seminar to learn the basics of public speaking, which included building their confidence and planning and presenting a speech to their peers.
Project Concern International offers a semester long leadership program where students can develop leadership skills through education and service learning. The Global Youth Leadership Program is open to high school students in San Diego County.
The students learn essential communication and leadership skills to apply during Project Concern International’s annual 5K fundraising event Walk for Water. The Walk for Water not only raises funds to fight disease, end poverty, and provide safe drinking water and sanitation throughout the world, but it also creates awareness of the global water crisis and the importance of water conservation.
During the walk, participants are encouraged to carry buckets of water to simulate the journey millions of people in developing countries make every day. Did you know one billion people lack access to safe drinking water?
The San Diego 2014 Walk for Water will take place at Tecolote Shores in Mission Bay Park on Sunday, March 2nd from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Registration will begin at 9 a.m. For more information and to register, please use this link to visit the Project Concern International website.
