Mark first competed in the Carlsbad Optimist Club’s Club and Zone Level Contests on February 18th and April 1st. Now Mark will advance to the Optimist Club’s San Diego District Level Oratorical Contest on April 29th.

Mark will compete for the chance to win scholarships ranging from $1,000 to $2,500 and the opportunity to advance to the World Championship of Public Speaking at Washington University in St. Louis in June.

What is especially impressive is Mark has been competing against middle and high school students and despite only being in 4th grade, he has won at the club and zone levels.

Tonight Mark will rehearse his award winning speech What the World Gains from Optimism during the High Achievers Toastmasters meeting at the La Jolla Library. The High Achievers Toastmasters are undoubtedly in store for a special treat!
